For Willem Megens, the founder of Outside Inn, everything started with a dream: to create a place where his passion for jobs and hospitality come together. With this question in mind, he began his adventure, and thus Outside Inn was born: an indoor campsite where nostalgia and innovation come together. It is the place where travelers can spend the night in converted vintage caravans and still find themselves in the middle of Amsterdam.
From Idea To Reality
The journey to realizing Outside Inn began in the mountains of Myanmar in November 2016. There Willem met Bob Kuys, an entrepreneur with a clear vision: if you have a dream, pursue it. This conversation gave Willem the final push to make his plan a reality.
Together they further developed the creative concept. The search for a suitable building began, and once that was found, Willem set to work. With great care and precision, he converted several caravans into the attractive accommodations Outside Inn offers today.
A Troubled Start, But A Bright Future
In the summer of 2020, Outside Inn finally opened its doors. Just then, tourism came to a virtual standstill due to the corona pandemic. It was a difficult time, but thanks to perseverance and creativity, Willem managed to keep his dream alive.
Now, several years later, Outside Inn has become a popular base for visitors to Amsterdam. The unique indoor camping experience, combined with personalized service and a warm atmosphere, makes it a popular choice among travelers who want something different from a standard hotel stay.
